Privacy Policy
In one paragraph#
Localee is a single-purpose tool that translates localization files into the languages you choose. To do that we send the strings in your file to our LLM provider for processing, and — if you sign in — we store your email and a display name so you can log in. We do not sell your data, do not use it to train models, and do not record your screen, clicks, or text input. With your consent we use first-party analytics (PostHog) to see which features get used — never recording your files, file names, or translation results.
Data we collect#
- Account info — when you sign in with Google, GitHub, or an email magic link, we receive and store your email address, an identity-provider identifier, and (if the provider gives it) your display name and avatar URL.
- Usage metadata — a timestamp and a hashed identifier (a hash of IP + user-agent, not your raw IP) per translation task, used only to enforce free-tier limits and prevent abuse.
- Files you upload — the strings in the file you upload are sent to our LLM provider for one-off processing to produce the translation. The file is not stored on our servers. While a translation is in progress, your file lives in your browser's session storage on your device, and is cleared when the session ends.
- Anonymous usage analytics (with your consent) — if you accept the cookie banner, we use PostHog to record which features you use (for example, started a translation, completed a download). Events carry an anonymous identifier (stored in a first-party cookie and localStorage) and coarse properties like file format, key counts, and locale counts — never file contents, file names, or translation results. You can decline via the cookie banner, or change your choice anytime via the “Manage cookies” link in the footer.
How we use it#
- To run the translation (send your strings to the LLM, return the translated file).
- To enforce free-tier limits (anonymous: 1 task/day; signed-in free: 5 tasks/day) and a site-wide daily ceiling that protects the model bill.
- To let you sign in and carry your usage across sessions and devices.
- To debug errors in aggregate. We do not look at your file contents as a matter of course.
Third-party services#
- Supabase — hosts our user accounts and profiles. Acts as a data processor on our behalf.
- LLM provider — processes your strings to produce the translation. Your strings are sent to our current large-language-model provider per request. We select providers that meet enterprise-grade data handling standards, and the specific provider may change over time as we improve quality. We do not retain the request after the response returns, and we never use your strings to train any model.
- Vercel — hosts the website and runs our API routes.
- Paddle — processes payments as our Merchant of Record, only if you buy credits or a Pro plan. Paddle receives the billing details you enter at checkout (name, billing country, payment method) and is the seller on your receipt. We never see or store your full card number. Subject to Paddle's privacy policy.
- Google / GitHub — only when you choose to sign in with them. We receive your email and basic profile info from the provider you pick.
- PostHog — product analytics. We send only the events we manually trigger (no session replay, no auto-capture of your clicks or text input). PostHog sets first-party cookies and localStorage entries for analytics only after you accept the cookie banner. Acts as a data processor on our behalf.
- Sentry — error monitoring. Captures unhandled JavaScript errors (stack traces and minimal context like browser type and the page URL where the error happened) so we can fix bugs. Sentry is active regardless of your cookie-consent choice, because it is error monitoring rather than behavioral tracking. Acts as a data processor on our behalf.
What we don't do#
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use your files to train models (and we don't operate any model ourselves).
- We do not run advertising on Localee.
- We do not record your screen, clicks, or text input. Session replay and auto-capture are off — even when analytics are enabled.
- We do not store your IP address. PostHog is configured to discard client IP data before it is stored alongside events.
- We do not set third-party (cross-site) tracking cookies. PostHog uses first-party cookies on
localee.dev, only after you accept the cookie banner.
Your choices#
- Delete your account — email us from the address on your Localee account (see “Contact”) and we will delete your account data within 7 days.
- Analytics opt-out — decline via the cookie banner on your first visit, or change your choice anytime by clicking “Manage cookies” in the footer. Declining removes the PostHog cookies and localStorage entries on your next page load and stops further event capture. Aggregated analytics records may be retained per PostHog's data-retention policy.
- Local data — files cached in your browser's session storage are cleared when the session ends, and any saved preferences can be cleared by clearing site data for
localee.devin your browser settings.
Children#
Localee is not intended for users under 13. If you are under 13, please do not create an account.
Changes#
We will update the “Last updated” date when we change this policy. Material changes will be announced on the Localee home page.
